FDR4ATMOS
The project FDR4ATMOS (Fundamental Data Records in the domain of satellite Atmospheric Composition) has been initiated by the European Space Agency (ESA). A Fundamental Data Record (FDR) is a long-term record of selected Earth observation Level 1 parameters (radiance, irradiance, reflectance), possibly multi-instrument, which provides improvements of performance with respect to the individual mission datasets. The focus of this project is a FDR for ozone and sulphur dioxide in the UV range, for nitrogen dioxide in the visible range.
Phase 1 (2019-2024) of the project covered the improvement SCIAMACHY of the Level 1b degradation correction and the production of a harmonized time series of GOME-1 and SCIAMACHY measurements. Data sets for SCIAMACHY with the improved degradation correction were published in 2024 and are available at the ESA SCIAMACHY Webpage. The first version of the harmonized GOME-1/SCIAMACHY data set is available at ESA.
Phase 2 of the project was started in 2023 and
- will incorporate GOME-2 data into the GOME-1/SCIAMACHY time series
- will provide lunar data from SCIAMACHY and GOME-2 and develop a lunar model
- will add a degradation correction for GOME-1 reflectances

The second phase is done in close cooperation with EUMETSAT.
The consortium consists of IUP Bremen, BIRA Belgium, NPL UK, ESS Netherland with DLR as prime contractor to ESA.
