MODIS-EU

The data from the MODIS instruments on the TERRA and AQUA satellites is received at DFD in Oberpfaffenhofen around six times a day. The satellites fly over Europe on different orbits so that the entire region is recorded step by step. The decisive overflights for Europe take place between around 10:00 and 16:00.

Selected channels of the approx. 2300 km wide ground strips recorded during the overflight are automatically assembled into a color mosaic that roughly corresponds to human perception. These are archived as a daily composite and can be accessed via the interactive map below, along with the most recent image.

Please excuse any data or image failures. The Terra and Aqua satellites are now 23 and 24 years old and will be deactivated in the next few months.

We are working on an alternative for our European mosaic.
