GEMSTAR
Thanks to modern scenario-based verification and validation tools, the market readiness of SAE Level 3 to 5 automation systems is within reach. The solutions presented support OEMs, suppliers and certification bodies in creating and checking quantitative and qualitative safety evidence for automated driving functions in the context of their Operational Design Domain (ODD). With the GEMSTAR, TSC and RdbS toolchains, powerful tools are available that provide the necessary safety case and thus pave the way for a safe market launch.

Scenario-Based Verification and Validation for Automated Driving (GEMSTAR)
The simulation framework GEMSTAR (GEoMetry based Sensor simulation Toolchain for Automotive and Rail research) for scenario-based verification offers local authorities, operators, and authorizing bodies a simple and precise way to assess vehicle and route compatibility, determine the ideal infrastructure equipment, and evaluate planned configurations without having to carry out complex field tests. This includes simulation-based testing of specific combinations of vehicle and operating area, use of sensor models validated with the Test Bed Lower Saxony, support of all common standards for sustainable data utilization, precise statements about system performance even in early development phases, identification of special challenges in automated operation and derivation of sensible measures, to finally provide test reports as a possible basis for authorization. The toolchain has been used in the projects Gaia-X4PLC AAD, VV-Methoden, and SetLevel. Within SetLevel, partners like BMW, Bosch, IPG Automotive, and DLR build a common understanding and architecture about traffic simulation. With Alstom, the project ARTE makes the first use of GEMSTAR in the railway sector.
