Synhelion has lifted out its reactor with the help of a large crane. For the time being, it will no longer be used, but it has made history at the DLR-Multifocus Tower in Jülich:
In 2022, as part of the SolarSyngas project, Synhelion produced syngas for the first time on an industrial scale using only solar heat as an energy source. This milestone was a key achievement for the young company and laid the foundation for the subsequent construction of its DAWN facility in Jülich, its first industrial solar fuel plant. Since its opening in June 2024, DAWN has been producing solar kerosene, diesel, and gasoline – a successful example of knowledge and technology transfer to industry.
Following further tests at the DLR-Multifocus Tower, where syngas was captured and converted into synthetic crude oil in an off-site Fischer-Tropsch plant, or where the measurement technique was investigated, it’s now time for something new. Synhelion is now focused on scaling up and commercialising its technology, and we look forward to future collaborations and the continued transfer of science to industry.
