How does route and means of transport recognition work?
Position and movement sensors on the smartphone or GPS logger are used to recognise routes and means of transport. The sensor data can be used to determine the exact location of a person or vehicle and to create acceleration profiles that allow conclusions to be drawn about the means of transport used. The advantage of this method is the automatic recording of journeys with all means of transport used, times and distances.
Are there differences in the quality of route and mode of transport recognition?
The quality of route and mode of transport recognition depends on the respective sensor data. These differ depending on the model and age of the smartphone and the area under investigation. Therefore, routes and means of transport may not always be recognised correctly. However, you can help us by correcting incorrectly recognised means of transport. The app learns from this and can recognise means of transport better in future.
Does route tracking affect the battery life of my smartphone?
Route tracking consumes additional power. Depending on the model and age of the smartphone, the battery is drained by around 5% to 10% per hour. Please charge your smartphone regularly.
When and for how long are routes tracked?
Routes are only recorded when tracking is active in the MovingLab app and you are on the move. If you are in one place for a longer period of time, the route recording is paused and only resumed when you are on the move again. Shorter stops - for example at traffic lights - are recognised as waiting time.
When are routes displayed in the DLR MovingLab app?
If you have a mobile data connection, your recorded routes will be displayed in the app after a few minutes. Otherwise, the data will be transmitted when you are connected to wi-fi again.
Does route tracking also work in buildings or underground transport?
The quality of the recognition of routes and means of transport depends primarily on two factors: The quality of the sensor data and the GPS signal. If the connection to the GPS satellites is impaired in buildings, tunnels, dense forests and underground transport, this also affects the app.
If the app loses the GPS signal for more than 10 minutes, a new route is started once the connection has been restored. Shorter connection failures are interpreted as stages with a waiting time.
What do I do if I have forgotten to switch on route tracking?
If you have forgotten to record a route or no route data has been transmitted, you can also enter a route. Please note that you can only enter one mode of transport. This should be your main mode of transport for this journey. In addition, no circular routes can be entered. The start and destination address must be different for manually entered routes.
In your profile, you can enter important places that you often visit, such as your workplace or your home. You can select these addresses with just one click when entering routes.
Can I delete a route again?
Yes, you can also delete routes. To do this, select a route in the app and then click on "Delete route".
How do I delete my MovingLab account?
If you are sure that you want to delete your MovingLab account, you can do this within the app. To do this, click on "Delete account" under "Profile". Your MovingLab account and all associated data will then be deleted.
Please note that deleting your MovingLab account is irrevocable. Unfortunately, we cannot inform you about the deletion of your data, as your contact details will also be deleted.
