The solar wind is the central driving force behind space weather. Its speed, density, and magnetic field structure significantly determine the intensity of geomagnetic responses on Earth.

The institute is working on methods for analyzing and forecasting solar wind conditions based on satellite data and physics-based models. The goal is to improve the assessment of potentially geoeffective structures and to integrate them in a timely manner into operational warning and assessment systems.
