Research Cooperative Systems
The department is pioneering new autonomous mobility solutions by researching, designing, and demonstrating connection, automation, cooperation, and coordination for vehicles, system networks, and us humans.
In the AUTOPILOT project, a total of 45 project participants from 15 countries are working on the development and testing of various applications and mobility services for automated and connected driving. The focus is on analysing the potential of IoT for improving automated driving. Driving modes and driving services are being developed, implemented and evaluated on five test fields in Europe and one in Korea.
The project aims to bring together relevant knowledge and technologies from the automotive and IoT sectors to develop IoT architecture and platforms that will take automated driving to a new level. The focus is on developing safety-relevant solutions, promoting innovation, utilising and evaluating V2X networking, assessing the socio-economic benefits of the IoT from a user and stakeholder perspective and developing standards.
As part of the project, applications and services for automated and connected driving are being developed and tested under real-life conditions. The tests are accompanied by a scientific evaluation of the technology, user acceptance, market potential, legal framework conditions and potential effects on quality of life.
The DLR Institute of Transportation Systems is leading the work on the development of IoT platforms, services and functions for automated driving and is making a significant contribution to the further development of the Automated Valet Parking (AVP) application.
