Digitalized Road Transport

Our department Digitalized Road Transport is actively shaping the digital twin of the transport system – with a particular focus on road transport. The aim is to enable open and barrier-free access to all relevant data and technologies – non-discriminatory, federated and networked.
On this technological basis, we develop intelligent digital services that work across all levels of the transport system: from road users and vehicles to edge and cloud systems. This results in innovative solutions for the connected, safe and efficient road transport of the future.
Our team brings in-depth expertise in the areas of processing and combining sensor data, research data management, big & fast data analytics, pattern recognition and machine learning.
We use this expertise to better monitor, forecast and control road traffic in a targeted manner – for example to increase safety or optimise traffic flows. The result is holistic, data-driven system solutions – from recording and analysing to application.
Our focal points at a glance:
- Development of architecture concepts for distributed systems with a focus on decentralised data rooms
- Integration and linking of large, spatially and temporally structured data from various sources
- Utilisation of this data for practical applications, for example:
- Analysing and evaluating the traffic situation to improve road safety
- Development and safeguarding of cooperative, automated transport
- Intelligent infrastructure for expanding the operating range of automation
- Procedure for the predictive maintenance of road infrastructure
- Development and provision of services for optimised traffic control and coordination in transport networks
