Technologies for Transport and Mobility Management

The department Technologies for Transport and Mobility Management develops innovative technologies for modern and sustainable traffic and transport management in cities and regions. Our aim is to make mobility for people and freight transport future-proof – networked, efficient and intermodal.
We design technical components for complete systems that intelligently combine the strengths of road and rail. We consider the requirements of users and operators alike and integrate them into the system development – from planning to implementation.
Our solutions are based on data from higher-level data spaces and use artificial intelligence methods and simulation technologies to optimise mobility services and transport processes.
A central tool in our work is the microscopic open-source traffic simulation SUMO, which we develop ourselves. It serves as the basis for configuring complex mobility systems and forms the backbone for digital twins of entire transport systems.
Our focal points at a glance:
- Development of intermodal mobility solutions for road and rail
- Use of AI and simulation for decision support and offer optimisation
- Development of digital twins for integrated mobility planning
- Supporting cities, regions and public authorities in designing sustainable services
