Rail2X-Smart Services – applications of Car2X technology in rail transport
Thanks to its use in the automotive industry, Car2X technology is expected to establish itself quickly and the standardised components will soon be available for rail transport at low cost. However, specific applications in rail transport have not yet been extensively tested. This is where the Rail2X - Smart Services project comes in.
The aim of the project is to transfer Car2X technology to train transport applications. Three use cases are specified in the project and tested on a large scale on the Erzgebirgsbahn Sachsen railway. In addition to more efficient maintenance of railway facilities, the project focuses on traffic safety at level crossings and increasing passenger comfort through on-demand stops. Successful implementation can significantly increase the efficiency and effectiveness of regional transport.
The three use cases to be tested - service and diagnostics, demand stops, call barriers - are concretised and the requirements for the communication system are derived and implemented. Once the vehicles and systems have been equipped with the necessary technology, they are tested and evaluated in real-life operation. Data from central sources such as the mCLOUD is used and enriched or newly collected data is provided. Data protection and the security of the system against attacks must be guaranteed.
