The team led by Wolf-Dieter Steinmann from the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics has received funding of up to one million euros from the German Federal Agency for Leap Innovations (SPRIND) for the IsoCHEST project, together with five other teams, to develop long-term energy storage systems. It combines the principles of heat pump, latent heat storage and a new isothermal compression process to store energy with higher efficiency and lower cost compared to current methods.
