October 2024 - Opening of the test environment

Ceremonial commissioning of the test environment on 28 October 2024.

September 2022 - Start of building construction

Start of structural work on the containerised facility. The planned steel platform will house some of the technical infrastructure such as coolers and transformers.

August 2022 - Container delivery

Delivery of the containers for the fuel cell, electric motor and battery test field as well as the containers for the technical infrastructure and the control centre.

July 2022 - Foundations completed

The foundations of the container system have been completed.

June 2022 - CommissioningALAT

Air Liquide Advanced Technologies is commissioned as technology partner for the delivery of an aviation-relevant liquid hydrogen tank.

October 2021 - Official ground-breaking ceremony

On 6 October 2021, Steffen Bilger (BMDV), Prof. Dr Karsten Lemmer (DLR), Prof. Dr André Thess (DLR), Dr Stefan Rudi (Project Management Jülich) and Tobias König (NOW GmbH) will kick off construction work on the BALIS project with a ground-breaking ceremony.

July 2021 - Commissioning of the system partner

In July 2021, AVL is commissioned as a system partner for the implementation of the BALIS test infrastructure following a successful tender process.

June 2021 - Location decision

After extensive evaluation and assessment of various location options, the Empfingen Innovation Campus was selected as the location for the BALIS test environment in June 2021 under the management of E2U GmbH.

21 January 2021 - Project start

Project start on 21 January 2021

Commissioning of the first technology partners from February-May 2021: Commissioning of the technology partners Diehl Aerospace (avionics), PowerCell (fuel cell system), Compact Dynamics (electric motor)
