The SpaceLiner Vision

SpaceLiner

The basic idea behind the concept is that the SpaceLiner has the potential to enable sustainable and cost-effective space transport into orbit and at the same time revolutionize ultra-long-distance transport between different points on Earth. The number of rocket launches per year is to be greatly increased, drastically reducing the manufacturing and operating costs of launch vehicles.

DLR's SpaceLiner concept is similar in some respects to the idea of reusable launch vehicles for multiple missions. With these, completely different missions are served by one and the same vehicle. Another typical example in this category is the SpaceX Starship & SuperHeavy. While in its primary role the SpaceLiner is designed as an ultra-fast, intercontinental passenger transporter, in its second role it is intended to serve as a space transporter capable of carrying heavy payloads into orbit.
