We seek to exchange knowledge and ideas. The Institute for AI Safety and Security regularly attends conferences, trade fairs and workshops to develop its scientific expertise further and initiate new collaborations.

IAA Transportation 2026

At this year's IAA Transportation, our institute is presenting two exhibits that explore the operational and security aspects of AI in conjunction with human-in-the-loop approaches. One exhibit features an intelligent robot assistant that receives commands from a human operator and then loads and unloads objects safely and efficiently (SiKI). The AI Development and Testing exhibit addresses the development and safe application of AI systems, focusing on human–AI robot interaction. Our presentations will address key industry needs and demonstrate how humans and machines can collaborate more safely and precisely through the use of AI. Please visit us at stand C56 in Hall 13.

Quantum Effects Exhibition and Conference

Join us at the Quantum Effects fair to experience the world of quantum computing. Our Quantum Arcade lets you compete against simulated quantum agents in popular video games, while our Quantum Abacus offers a visual insight into the workings of qubits, the building blocks of quantum computing.

Open doors with the mouse: AI, quanta and robots

The theme for 2026 is: Little Wonders! What do neurons and quantum phenomena have in common? Both are fascinating phenomena that broaden our understanding of the world and open up new technological possibilities. At the DLR in Ulm, visitors can discover the world of research: robots in action, competitions against artificial intelligence in table tennis or car racing, and insights into how robots learn with the help of AI offer exciting glimpses into current research. The fascinating world of quantum physics can also be explored in a fun and engaging way. Interactive quantum games clearly illustrate what makes quantum physics so special and the potential that lies within quantum technology.

Technology for young and old! We at the DLR Institute for AI Safety and Security will be at the Science Festival in Stuttgart on 3 July, where parents and children are able to experience AI at our Quantum Arcade.

NRW Festival at the State Representation Office in Berlin

On 10 June 2026, the DLR will showcase exhibits from the fields of aerospace and transportion at the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia’s traditional summer festival in Berlin. Visitors will also be able to experience the AI-based driver condition detection system, 1Vision, for themselves in a driving simulator specially equipped for this purpose by the DLR Institute of AI Safety and Security.

Hannover Fair 2026

The world’s leading industrial trade fair, Hannover Messe, will take place from 20 to 24 April 2026 at the exhibition grounds. This year, the event is held under the motto “Think tech forward”. Under the key theme “Technologies for Industry”, the DLR showcases practical research findings and technological solutions for industrial applications. These include an AI-supported autonomous robotic system, the hybrid-reality platform RAPID and quantum computing for SMEs with QCI Solutions.

Stuttgart Game Fair “A passion for technology”

The DLR Institute for AI Safety and Security is presenting its Quantum Arcade at the games fair, where visitors can play games against a quantum AI. This arcade features a quantum AI, which is controlled by a quantum computer that operates according to the principles of quantum physics.

Quantum Effects 2025

At this year's Quantum Effects conference, the DLR Institutes for AI Safety and Security and Vehicle Concepts will present their joint work on the application of quantum computing and quantum machine learning in the field of crash test simulation. We will show the initial results of a short study and provide an overview of the planned continuation of this work. In addition, we will provide insights into our other projects in the field of quantum computing.

DLR Quantum & Space Day

The Institute for AI Safety and Security will be represented at the Quantum Festival during the DLR Quantum & Space Day at the Ulm City Hall. The focus of our presentation is our quantum demonstrator. Visitors will have the opportunity to play Pong against a quantum agent in an arcade setup. In addition, we offer insights into quantum art and invite visitors to try it themselves. With our “Quantum Abacus,” participants can program quantum circuits and visualize qubit dynamics on nine movable spheres.

On Doors Open Day, we will be showcasing exhibits and hands-on experiments from the fields of AI and quantum research. With the theme of 'Playing with AI and quantum', children will be able to gain a simple understanding of these future topics. Our DLR scientists will be available to answer questions about their work.

The Ulm-based author Helmuth Boeger reads from his novel ELIAS: What happens when an artificial intelligence can not only learn and think, but also feel? This is followed by a discussion about AI and quantum physics – supported by the Institute for AI Safety and Security at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and the Ulm Quantum Year 2025.

At the international Pint of Science festival, researchers will bring their latest findings directly to you - in bars, pubs and cafés across the city. Hannover Fair 2025

At this year's Hannover Messe, the DLR Institute for AI Safety and Security is presenting solutions for the next generation of mobility. Different means of transport will be connected to form a fluid system: from autonomous shuttles in rural areas to urban transport, seamless transitions and the optimisation of services will be possible in a tactile way. This is based on the Base-X project, the result of a joint initiative involving more than 80 project cooperants, including leading companies, public sector organisations and research institutions.

Opening ceremony Quantum Year Ulm

The city of Ulm is celebrating the International Year of Quantum Technology and Science "quant.ulm.2025" together with DLR and other stakeholders. The celebrations will begin with the opening ceremony on 14 March 2025. The Institute for AI Saferty and Security will be on site with the Quantum Arcade Demonstrator. Come along and compete against two different opponents - a classic AI and a quantum AI.

Together with 3 other DLR institutes, the Institute for AI Safety and Security will also be presenting itself here.

Company Day (Unternehmenstag) 2024

The Institute for AI Safety and Security will present itself at the Enterprise Day 2024 at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences together with 2 other DLR institutes. In addition to the exhibition stands in the Hochschulstraße of the Sankt Augustin campus, there will be an extensive free supporting programme for visitors. At the DLR stand, students can talk to our scientists and find out exactly what research at our institute involves and what opportunities there are to become part of our team. In addition to direct career entry, DLR also offers internships, practical semesters, final theses and doctorates.

Meeting of the Gaia-X 4 Future Mobility project family

On 17 and 18 October 2024, the next meeting of the Gaia-X 4 Future Mobility project family will take place in Cologne-Porz, hosted by the DLR Institute of AI Safety and Security as coordinator of the 6 projects involved. We will start on 17.10.24 with a get-together with time for discussions, personal contacts and professional exchange across project and company boundaries. On the following day, we will look back on the results of the 6 projects of the last 3 years and present their current status as well as their continuation concepts and the future planning of Base-X.

The new EU Product Liability Directive - update or upgrade for European technology law?

Conference at LMU Munich on 11 July 2024: Product liability for innovative systems, especially in the field of artificial intelligence, raises challenging dogmatic and practical questions both at a general level and in relation to specific sectors. The comparative law conference organised in cooperation with the Robotics & AI Law Society (RAILS) and the Institute for AI Safety and Security (DLR) is dedicated to the topic in the context of national and European approaches. In particular, the effects of the new EU Product Liability Directive, which is about to be adopted and will replace the previous Directive 85/374/EEC, will be discussed. Voices from science and practice will be brought together.

IT job fair for students

Heidelberg University educates around 30,000 students in more than 180 degree programmes at 13 faculties. The job fair offers around 30 regional and national companies the opportunity to make personal contact with students. The focus of the fair is on personal dialogue between personnel officers, subject specialists and students, doctoral candidates and alumni of Heidelberg University. Exhibiting employers can present their corporate culture and career opportunities and specifically look for committed young talent. The Institute for AI Safety and Security will also present itself here and engage in dialogue with students.

Hannover Fair2024

From 22 April, the Gaia-X 4 Future Mobility project family will be showcasing innovative, connected mobility applications for the digital transformation of the transport system at Hannover Messe 2024. Gaia-X 4 Future Mobility is coordinated by the DLR Institute of AI Safety and Security. The 6 projects present individual focal points and joint work results. The central result of the cross-project collaboration will take centre stage at the trade fair: Base-X, an open digital foundation for system innovations that optimises the shared use of data and services. Base-X is scalable, international and economical - and paves the way for networked, intelligent and sustainable mobility and logistics.

bonding Company Contact Fair Stuttgart

The Institute for AI Safety and Security will be represented together with 6 other DLR institutes at the 32nd bonding company contact fair at the University of Stuttgart. Our colleagues on site will present how an aircraft designed by non-safe AI could look like and present the 3D printout of an optimisation landscape of a quantum machine learning classification task.

The KnowledgeInterchangeWorkshops (WAW) are a series of interdisciplinary workshops across DLR’s organisational units with the aim of long-term knowledge exchange on interdisciplinary topics and the expansion and creation of professional networks. The WAW includes keynote speakers, tutorials, lectures and a poster session, as well as group discussions and a social event. It will be held in English to allow as many DLR-employees as possible to participate in a meaningful way.
