System and Service Volume Simulation Environment (S²VSE)

A modular and flexible simulation environment that enables the DLR Galileo Competence Center to provide analysis and consultation covering a wide range of PNT topics

Our Concept

S²VSE allows the testing and validation of novel system designs and enables technologies by simulating the functional and processing architecture of GNSS. The simulation environment encompasses a system simulator and a service volume simulator.

Constellation Generation

With an increasing number of newly proposed satellite constellations and extensions to existing system designs it is necessary to be able to effectively create varying single- or multilayer constellations for evaluation.

Constellation Design Optimisation

New constellations are often envisioned in lower orbits, meaning more satellites are needed for global coverage. This creates a large configuration space, making this well-suited for applying optimisation techniques.

User Environment Modelling

GNSS often experiences reduced performance in areas of low visibility like cities. S²VSE enables the creation of realistic user scenarios for the analysis of effects such as shadowing and non-line of sight (NLOS).

Some other Features are…

  • Receiver grid generation for different scenarios
  • Orbit propagation including environmental aspects like space weather
  • Signal-In-Space Ranging Error (SISRE)
  • User Equipment Error (UEE) and User Equivalent Range Error (UERE)
  • GNSS based positioning and sensor fusion including quantum sensors
  • Urban Heat Island (UHI) monitoring via GNSS
  • Lunar navigation
