Responsive Space -specific AIT-processes

RS-specific AIT processes

In order to be able to realise a responsive satellite launch, concepts for an accelerated assembly, integration, testing (AIT) and validation of satellite systems and their components are required.

In this context, the RSC³ is researching the conditions under which time can be saved in the AIT phase. To this end, the competence centre investigates the compatibility of relevant payloads with available satellite platform types and promotes standardisation. Integration and qualification processes can be shortened with the help of standards and modular platforms.

Responsive Space represents a trade-off between the response time for the transfer of a space-based payload and the quality and risk requirements for the satellite mission. Responsive Space must provide answers as to how AIT processes can be adapted in order to find an acceptable balance between reactivity, technical robustness and costs.

Another aspect of providing a satellite system without delay is the stockpiling of pre-integrated components, subsystems and entire satellites (see Storable Payloads & Platforms).

The logistical challenge of stockpiling and optimised test campaigns are being investigated in the AIT laboratories at RSTEC in Trauen (see Research infrastructure in TR).
