Pilot regions

In all research topics of the EO4CAM project (urban areas, agriculture, forestry, as well as in the cross-cutting topics biodiversity, geohazards, and health), remote sensing-based information is collected for the entire Free State of Bavaria. In addition, selected research questions will focus on pilot regions within Bavaria. These include, for example, aspects of urban climate modeling or the development of scenarios.

The pilot regions will be defined during the project’s conceptual phase, in collaboration with selected governmental partners.

Bavarian Rhön

The UNESCO Rhön Biosphere Reserve is located in the border region of Bavaria, Hesse, and Thuringia. Covering more than 2,400 square kilometers, it is the fourth-largest biosphere reserve in Germany. Its goal is not only to protect the exceptional low mountain landscape and its natural environment.

Sailershausen University Forest

The University Forest of the University of Wuerzburg in Sailershausen, Lower Franconia, combines science, education, and sustainable forest management. The university has owned forest land for nearly 450 years. In 1582, it was endowed with forest and other lands during its re-establishment by Wuerzburg’s Prince-Bishop Julius Echter.
