Bad Kissingen District

The district of Bad Kissingen, located in Lower Franconia, has been selected as a pilot region within the project to address climate adaptation not only at the level of individual municipalities, but across administrative boundaries at the district scale.

Through collaboration with the district administration and multiple municipalities – ranging from rural communities to more urbanized centers – we bring together diverse perspectives and needs. This integrated approach enables a systematic examination of cross-cutting issues such as the development of regional green infrastructure, preparedness for extreme rainfall events, and strategic land-use planning.

The Bad Kissingen district thus serves as a model for integrated, cross-municipal climate adaptation. It illustrates how synergies between local governments can be harnessed while still respecting their individual capacities for action. The pilot region demonstrates how proactive climate resilience can be conceptualized and implemented as a shared, regionally anchored, and future-oriented responsibility.
