Munich

For the Munich pilot region, we explore how urban climate simulations and the analysis of ecosystem services can inform sustainable urban development. Therefore, EO4CAM collaborates closely with various departments of the City of Munich. The project aims to assess the effects of urban development, soil sealing, and green infrastructure on heat stress, cold air flow patterns, and evaporative cooling.

In parallel, the performance of green infrastructure – such as carbon sequestration and temperature regulation – is systematically monitored and evaluated. The overarching goal is to quantify the impacts of urban greenery on both human well-being and environmental quality, thereby highlighting its role in strengthening urban resilience.

Munich serves as a representative case for other large cities in Germany that must respond to changing climatic conditions while balancing growth, urban densification, and quality of life. As a pilot region, Munich contributes to the development of scientifically grounded solutions for creating greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient cities.
