  • Development of an on-demand adapter for the development and networking of on-demand services and public transport
  • The challenge is the lack of standards and networked information systems
  • Keywords: on-demand mobility, networking, integration

New mFUND-project ODIN-MP creates basis for better networking of bus and rail with on-demand services

On-demand mobility is an important element in making public transport more flexible. However, the seamless connection of on-demand services with traditional public transport has so far only been possible in isolated cases: standards are lacking and existing information systems are not networked. Transport companies and associations are faced with the challenge of integrating on-demand services into their information systems and supplementing booking information in order to simplify use and remove access barriers. Data must be harmonised and systems networked in order to promote multimodal, cross-regional mobility!

Against this backdrop, the aim of the new mFund project ODIN-MP is to develop a cross-provider, nationwide on-demand adapter that enables on-demand systems to communicate with mobility platforms. With standardised data formats and the on-demand adapter, it will be possible for various transport associations as platform operators and the providers of on-demand transport to easily exchange and integrate their data and services nationwide. Passengers will thus be able to view and book on-demand mobility on their familiar platform.

The ODIN-MP project is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) with a total of 1.7 million euros as part of the mFUND innovation initiative.

With the help of this funding, a consortium will work on the realisation of the project until September 2027. The project participants are Rhine-Ruhr Public Transport Association (VRR), Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB), Hacon Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, IVU Traffic Technologies AG, Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR), BLIC GmbH and rms GmbH, unterstützt supported by DELFI e.V. and other associated participants.

About the mFUND funding programme of the BMV

As part of the mFUND funding programme, the BMV has been supporting research and development projects relating to data-based digital innovations for Mobility 4.0 since 2016. The project funding is supplemented by active professional networking between stakeholders from politics, business, administration and research and the provision of open data on the Mobilithek.
