IEA Task 44 HiCBest (IEA Task 44 HiCBest) is a joint research project within the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The overarching aim of this task is to establish a platform that brings together experts from industry and academia to:

  • Systematically identify and evaluate the role of storage-based power-to-heat and heat-integrated Carnot batteries in the energy transition,
  • Strengthen the international visibility of these technologies and create a common understanding of their potential in industry and politics.

3rd expert meeting on 1 April 2025 in Stockholm

The next expert meeting will be organised by the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and is expected to bring together 40 participants.

Focus of the meeting:

  • Definition of key performance indicators for heat storage technologies
  • Structuring these key figures according to use cases

This structured analysis is intended to create a better understanding of the use and potential of power-to-heat and Carnot batteries.
