Project details

METERON (Multi-Purpose End-To-End Robotic Operation Network) is a series of experiments aimed at validating advanced technologies for tele-manipulation of robots from space. A number of robots on earth, including Rollin' Justin (DLR), are controlled from inside the International Space Station (ISS) using haptic feedback or semi-autonomously. The SUPVIS JUSTIN Experiment deals with the scenario of planetary exploration. The experiment aims to demonstrate how robots, in spite of considerable communication lags, can be ordered to solve complex tasks. The local intelligence of the robot is employed to implement an astronaut’s commands. The operating schemes thus developed will form the basis for future robotic space missions.
