Research is the basis for the future of our society. At the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), we conduct interdisciplinary and application-oriented research to address social challenges and economic needs. Our research at the Institute of Propulsion Technology creates added value for the economy and society. Our broad knowledge in the field of turbomachinery enables innovative research approaches and makes an important contribution to transformation processes in the aviation and energy industries. Our goal is to shape a future that is worth living in and environmentally compatible.

Projects

Our work focuses on the development and virtualisation of efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft engines and power plant turbines.

Research infrastructure

Our large-scale research facilities enable application-oriented testing of gas turbine components under real operating conditions. Testing on our test benches and facilities complements the software solutions and measurement techniques developed at the Institute.

Software

We develop our own simulation tools to design and optimise engine components and complete engines, and to predict various characteristics.

Types of collaboration

Together with representatives from research and industry, we explore and develop ideas and technologies for environmentally friendly aviation and a clean energy economy.
