Aeroacoustic and aerodynamic measurement and analysis methods

Engine Acoustics uses a variety of methods to investigate sound sources, analyse flows in wind tunnels and engines, and provide the basis for the development of new prediction tools.

Microphone array measurement and analysis methods

It is possible to locate and analyse sound sources on both stationary and moving objects using microphone array technology.

                    Hot-wire anemometry

Using hot-wire measurement technology, the Engine Acoustics department analyses the degree of turbulence in wind tunnel flows and investigates the unsteady flow structures of fast-rotating compressors.

                    Unsteady aerodynamics in turbomachinery

In the Department of Engine Acoustics at the DLR Institute of Propulsion Technology, we have carried out numerous investigations, the results of which provide a valuable database for the development of acoustic prediction tools.
