Institute of Transport Research

At the Institute of Transport Research, we are shaping the mobility of the future. To this end, we are developing economically viable solutions that are socially fair and climate-friendly. For this purpose, we develop means of transport, transport services and spaces for transport to meet the demands of personal mobility and the needs of production and trade.

Mobility and transport move people today more than ever: They ensure social participation, economic prosperity, and everyday movement. At the DLR site in Berlin-Adlershof, our Institute of Transport Research designs future transport systems, shaping actions for our partners from business, transport planning, and politics.

We collect, understand, and interpret mobility data and therefore know the mobility needs and the willingness to use new transport solutions. The scenarios and forecasts we create provide an insight into the future of mobility. To ensure that the future transport systems we design meet the mobility needs of goods and people in the most climate-friendly and socially acceptable way, we use our transport models and simulations and work in scientifically grounded co-creation.

What specialities are we looking for?

  • Humanities and social sciences
  • Computer science
  • Economics

Our focus is on building blocks of solutions from the areas of transport modes, transport services, and transport spaces, which we view systemically and connect with each other. We make the effects of these solution components tangible in virtual environments, real-life laboratories, and experimental spaces.

The digital traffic planning tools we have developed enable the optimal use of innovative mobility concepts for the effective support of a transformation of the transport system.

In addition, we research the new planning and participation methods enabled by this.
