The 'For-KI' project forms part of a strategic research programme focusing on the digitalisation of forensics. In collaboration with Albstadt-Sigmaringen University of Applied Sciences, the DLR Institute for AI Safety and Security is developing new methods to clarify the role of AI in digital forensics, making it more understandable, comprehensible and practical. The project aims to improve the explainability of AI-supported decisions in legally relevant contexts, while also demonstrating the limits of their use.

Contribution DLR-Institute for AI Safety and Security

The project is divided into five consecutive milestones. Based on an analysis of established forensic process models, the integration of AI-based decisions will be investigated. At the same time, the requirements for traceability and the quality of AI-supported analyses will be systematically classified. Building on this, a showcase application example from digital forensics will be designed and developed. Particular focus will be given to recognising adversarial manipulation and developing suitable quality assurance measures. The project results will subsequently be applied to other projects, including the 'DiVe' (Digital Trust Infrastructures) project.
