Project Management Organisation Day 2024: Turning ideas into innovations - project management organisations accelerate change

On 10 and 11 September, the Project Management Agency Network Germany hosted the Project Management Agency Day 2024, bringing together leading institutions that implement research and innovation programmes for the federal and state governments in Berlin. The Project Management Agency Day is hosted by a different network member every two years, this year by the VDI Technology Centre at the Charité Campus Virchow Klinikum in Berlin.

"We project management organisations are the bridge builders that enable collaboration between research, funding and industry - so that ideas can be turned into solutions," says Sascha Hermann, Managing Director of the VDI Technology Centre and current spokesperson for the project management organisation network. "In this way, we make a decisive contribution to securing Germany's position as a leading centre of innovation and strengthening the future viability of our society."

A total of around 350 participants attended the Project Management Organisation Day and listened to presentations by representatives from the federal ministries and the scientific community. The central importance of project management organisations for a sustainable and effective research and innovation system was emphasised.

Participants were able to discuss other key topics in workshops, including the success of social innovations, the digitalisation of funding management and AI in science communication. The Project Management Organisation Day also provided an opportunity for participants to engage in individual discussions.

The project management organisation network

The network of project management organisations brings together the main public and private institutions working as project management organisations in Germany. With 13 institutions and a total of 5,000 employees, the Project Management Agency Network pools expertise from the natural sciences, social sciences, economics, engineering and law as well as methods and instruments for promoting innovation. This knowledge and the diversity of the project management organisations from research, associations, industry and public bodies enable a broad coverage of research and innovation needs as well as an effective approach to different target groups. As hubs between politics, science, industry and society, the institutions of the Project Management Organisation Network pave the way for progress - from the initial idea to its promotion and application.

The following project management organisations are part of the network:

  • AiF Projekt GmbH
