                      About us

                      The Institute of Space Propulsion

Since its foundation in 1959, the DLR Institute of Space Propulsion has been the most important European research and testing facility for liquid-chemical rocket engines. On the 51-hectare site, 25 kilometers north-east of Heilbronn in Baden-Württemberg, a place of modern engine development has emerged from historical roots.

                      Departments

The DLR Institute of Space Propulsion is made up of nine departments. The various research focal points in space flight – from propellants to testing – and the technology transfer topic of hydrogen are dealt with. In addition, there is the safe and efficient operation of the rocket test stands and the associated infrastructure buildings, which go hand in hand with quality, safety and operational technology.

                      Location & Arrival

DLR Lampoldshausen is located approximately 25 kilometers northeast of Heilbronn in the municipality of Hardthausen. From the A81 Stuttgart – Würzburg highway, take the Möckmühl exit and follow the signs to the DLR Lampoldshausen site.

                      Awards

The DLR Institute of Space Propulsion is represented at international specialist conferences.
