                      Research & Transfer

                      Topics

Since 1959, DLR employees have been researching, developing and testing innovative technologies for chemical space propulsion at a test stand infrastructure that is unique in Europe. In addition to space flight, other key areas of research have developed over the decades from this extensive know-how. These include hydrogen applications, the use of artificial intelligence and applied safety research.

                      Projects

The DLR Institute of Space Propulsion works on research topics of the European Space Agency ESA, the European Union and government-funded projects. We also initiate or support internal DLR projects.

                      Expertise

The DLR Institute of Space Propulsion has decades of experience in testing space propulsion systems. This expertise is being transferred to the fields of energy using hydrogen and safety research.

                      Research and Test Infrastructure

The DLR Institute of Space Propulsion at the Lampoldshausen site operates a large number of large-scale research facilities for liquid-chemical space propulsion and for testing hydrogen technologies.

                      Start-ups

The DLR Institute of Space Propulsion supports the transfer of technology to industry. The two spin-offs HyImpulse Technologies and InSpacePropulsion Technologies were established at the Lampoldshausen site.
