RM at acatech Learning Workshop Technology Communication 2024

The clear communication of complex technical issues is the topic of the "Technology Communication Learning Workshop" organised by acatech and Wissenschaft im Dialog. The event took place from 21 October to 23 October 2024 in Munich for young journalists and science communicators. The Institute organised a workshop on the topic of "Institutional science communication".

With the learning workshop, which takes place annually, acatech and Wissenschaft im Dialog want to focus on technology communication, the importance and position of which has hardly been considered separately within science communication to date. In particular, the focus will be on the tension between theory and practice. The aim is to carry out communication measures (e.g. in schools or museums, in mass media, public relations, marketing or political consulting) in a scientifically sound manner and, on the other hand, to bring current challenges in communication as impulses into research (e.g. communication science, sociology, didactics, pedagogy, linguistics).

The questions that acatech and Wissenschaft im Dialog are exploring in their "Technology Communication Learning Workshop" with young science communicators, young journalists and young scientists interested in communication include: "How do we deal with resistance to controversial or risky technologies?", "To what extent is participation by society necessary or desirable?", "And what opportunities does online communication via social media offer?".

Thematic impulses from communication scientists and practitioners, the participants' own contributions and excursions were used for an intensive exchange of experiences. The Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics was involved for the third time with a contribution.

The speakers in 2024 were:

  • Gabriele Christ-Devlin, Bay. Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst
  • Prof. Dr. Cordula Kropp, ZIRIUS, Universität Stuttgart
  • Andrea Pletz, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft
  • Dr. Christian Sichau, Experimenta, Heilbronn
  • Lioba Suchenwirth, Institut für Robotik und Mechatronik, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt
