International experts from science, industry and hospitals discussed the future of medicine and care at XPOMET Medicinale 2019 from 10-12 October in Berlin. Learning from each other and making better use of the potential of artificial intelligence and digitalisation in Germany was the quintessence of the presentations from Europe, the USA, India, China and other regions. Prof Dr Pascale Ehrenfreund, Chair of the DLR Executive Board, spoke about medical research for space and its technological and methodological contribution to diagnosis, intervention and care for us on Earth. In the interview, she reported on the research expertise of the DLR Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich, on the MIRO Innovation Lab in the field of medical robotics and on care robotics projects such as SMiLE.
