Video: How robot swarms explore #Mars: Field test in the VaMEx project
As part of the Valles Marineris Explorer project, VaMEx-3 for short, a team of researchers has explored the trench system of the same name on Mars. In addition to universities and SMEs from Germany, the DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation (KN) and the DLR Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics (RM) are also involved in the DLR Space Agency's initiative with the Scout rover. While the KN team researched the autonomy and navigation of robot swarms, the RM Scout rover team worked closely with colleagues from the University of Würzburg (JMU) to simulate a scenario with the most realistic communication route possible.
