COSINUS
Integration of ship bridge navigation systems with shore-based traffic service systems (VTS)
Motivation
The COSINUS project is developing the integration of navigation systems on ship bridges with vessel traffic service systems (VTS) on land. Improved data exchange and the closer linking of ship and shore data by means of broadband communication should ensure safe and efficient shipping even with increasing traffic density. These new means of communication are being evaluated in order to create a common situational picture for ships and shore stations.
Objectives and Approaches
The project uses the eMIR testbed to demonstrate the consolidation and distribution of information from various sensors. In addition, exchanged routes and planned manoeuvres are integrated via a VHF/LTE communication link. In this way, a safe and effective VTS is supported that meets the increasing requirements in shipping traffic.
