Coordination of the autonomous mobility test fields in Germany

With the KoTAM project, DLR is coordinating the digital test fields for automated and connected mobility in Germany. The aim is to analyse and pool the experience gained in the various test fields and to create a common knowledge base.

Digital test fields for automated and connected mobility in Germany are key drivers for the development of innovative products in vehicles and infrastructure as well as in the mobility sector in general.

The Coordination of the autonomous mobility test fields aims to create synergies between the various development priorities of the operators and the responsible federal states. The aim is to analyse and pool the experience gained in the various test fields and to create a common knowledge base.

Based on a concept of the federal-state working group set up in 2020 for the nationwide coordination of test field activities for autonomous mobility, the states of Lower Saxony, Baden-Württemberg, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and North Rhine-Westphalia have joined forces to promote targeted coordination.

The DLR-Institute of Transportation Systems is responsible for the implementation of the project, which is initially scheduled to run for two years and is dedicated in particular to the topics of data protection, data security and infrastructure. The many years of experience gained from the development of the Test Bed Lower Saxony for automated and connected mobility, the findings from the support of the BASt in the development of the test field monitor and the excellent networking of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) with project participants from science, industry and the public sector are particularly helpful here.

Project title:
KoTAM - Coordination of the autonomous mobility test fields in Germany
