FP1-MOTIONAL

FP1-MOTIONAL aims to improve planning and operations in the rail sector, thereby strengthening rail transport. Furthermore, the project harnesses the potential of digitalisation to develop an interoperable, resilient European Traffic Management System (TMS) capable of adapting its capacity and integrating all the services involved.

Algorithm for the strategic optimisation of routing at railway stations

We are working on an algorithm for the strategic optimisation of routing at railway stations, with a particular focus on timetable robustness and optimal use of infrastructure. The algorithm was evaluated using two case studies in the Netherlands and Norway. The results were presented on 12 May 2026 in Paris at the dissemination event on the topic of ‘Intelligent Planning – Boosting planners’ power with smart algorithms and simulations’.
