AG Turbo

AG Turbo is the German platform for innovative turbomachinery research in Germany. Since our foundation in 1985, we have been supporting the implementation of the German government's energy concept and making an important contribution to the energy research programme.

Turbomachines for the energy transition

Turbomachines play a key role in the provision of electricity and heat as they can operate quickly and reliably. By utilising renewable fuels such as hydrogen, gas turbines have the potential to provide climate-neutral energy. AG Turbo aims to further develop turbomachinery technology so that it can be used in an environmentally friendly and climate-neutral way in order to meet the requirements for a sustainable energy supply.

Programme management

The programme management is made up of representatives from industry, research and universities from the Turbo working group and is supported by the DLR scientific coordination office.

History

AG Turbo was founded over 35 years ago. Since then, more than 350 doctoral theses have been funded by AG Turbo. Over 1500 scientific publications have been written and more than €70 million has been invested in the construction and continuous development of globally unique testing facilities and test rigs for turbomachinery.

This synergetic utilisation of public funding is only possible because AG Turbo offers a unique network that enables industrial companies and research institutes to work together in close coordination on pre-competitive topics.
