Dr. Robert Jaron takes over as Head of the Engine Acoustics Department

As of May 1, 2025, Dr. Robert Jaron has assumed leadership of the Engine Acoustics Department at the DLR Institute of Propulsion Technology. A long-standing member of the team and, most recently, acting deputy department head, he brings not only technical expertise but also extensive strategic and organizational experience to his new role.
"As a member of the department, it is both a special pleasure and an honor for me to take on this leadership position," Jaron emphasizes. "My personal motivation lies in continuing the department’s highly successful work and advancing it in a targeted manner – with a particular focus on its strategic orientation."
The Engine Acoustics Department is dedicated to the analysis and reduction of aircraft noise. Under Jaron’s leadership, this area will be systematically further developed to specifically address current and future challenges in aviation. The focus will be both on the incremental development of conventional propulsion concepts and on innovative developments in the fields of drones, civil supersonic aircraft, and alternative energy sources.
Jaron had already been serving as acting deputy head of the department since 2023. In addition to his research and leadership activities, he advises institutions such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on noise emission issues. Prof. Florian Herbst, Director at the Institute of Propulsion Technology, looks forward to continuing the collaboration: “With Dr. Robert Jaron, we have gained an extremely experienced colleague for this position, and a competent point of contact for the aviation industry, regulatory authorities, and policymakers on all matters related to the acoustic evaluation and design of aircraft engines.”
