The Institute of Future Fuels offers you the opportunity to actively contribute to a CO₂-neutral future and develop innovative technical solutions for the production of renewable fuels. As part of our team in Jülich and Cologne, you will work, for example, on producing hydrogen and sustainable fuels on an industrial scale from water, CO₂, nitrogen and renewable energies in order to replace fossil resources.

Our research aims to provide climate-neutral energy carriers for energy-intensive sectors such as the chemical industry or aviation. International and interdisciplinary projects with leading research institutes and industrial partners offer you insights into all project phases - from material development in the laboratory to the experimental phases at our large-scale research facilities to industrial applications. Techno-economic and socio-economic evaluation of new technologies and the development of solar photo-electrochemical processes are also an exciting field of work.

What specialities are we looking for?

  • Mechanical engineering
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Process engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Computer science
  • Electrical engineering
  • Industrial engineering
  • Administration

Our sites have state-of-the-art laboratories, a High-Flux Solar Furnace, the Synlight® solar simulator, the only one of its kind in the world, and two Solar Towers. This highly developed infrastructure enables innovative work on solar thermochemical processes for the efficient conversion of solar energy into usable energy carriers.

The work at the Institute of Future Fuels is as challenging as it is exciting and varied. We offer you responsibility and the freedom to develop your own ideas. In interdisciplinary teams and through exchange with researchers worldwide and industry, you will develop your skills and make an active contribution to the energy transition. We also offer interesting topics for student research projects and theses as well as administrative jobs. Find out about open positions or send us an unsolicited application.
