"I look forward to making the world (hopefully) a little bit better every day"
FIELD OF STUDY: Mechanical engineering | NOW: Institute of Solar Research
The Institute of Solar Research investigates and develops solar technologies and processes from the basics to the application for the generation of electricity, heat and fuels. It also focuses on the development of sustainable systems and processes for the chemical industry and measurement methods for assessing the energy efficiency of buildings and neighbourhoods.
The Institute of Solar Research focusses on the use of concentrated solar energy on earth. We develop, test and optimise innovative technologies and processes for concentrating solar thermal systems for the generation of electricity, heat and fuels.
Based on our system expertise, we support industrial companies in the supply of sustainable energy. We take into account all sustainable generation and storage technologies. The institute's researchers develop analysis tools and measurement technology for industrial plants in order to measure and predict solar irradiation and to record the energy requirements and operating status of components and systems.
We are also researching solar technologies that can be integrated in or on buildings or on agricultural land. We make a further contribution to sustainability by developing systems and processes for the transformation of the chemical industry.
Our aim is to actively contribute to the transformation of the energy system and industry and to the reduction of fossil fuels by utilising solar energy and pioneering developments.
With around 140 employees at the DLR sites in Cologne, Stuttgart, Jülich, Oldenburg and Almería (Spain), we work on innovative solutions in an international network. Our unique infrastructure, including the two Jülich solar towers, enables experiments to be carried out under realistic conditions on an industrial scale. In this way, we ensure that our developments are practical and future-proof.
The Institute of Solar Research offers dedicated specialists, students and scientists an inspiring working environment with a wide range of career opportunities. We promote interdisciplinary collaboration and support creative ideas that drive forward the energy transition. Our teams are international and have a wide range of expertise, and our employees appreciate the open working atmosphere, the challenging projects and the opportunity to contribute to the energy supply of tomorrow.
Whether in science or administration – exciting challenges await you here. Join us in shaping the future of energy supply and contribute your expertise to an international team.
