SINNOGENES

SINNOGENES - Storage INNOvations for Green ENErgy Systems (The project – Storage INNovations for Green ENErgy Systems) focuses on developing a complete framework of methodologies, tools and technologies  that will assist the transition to clean energy by providing innovative energy storage solutions and flexible power generation while ensuring the compatibility of systems and the standards of distributed energy storage for participation in flexibility markets. SINNOGENES project includes 27 partners from Portugal, Spain , France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Italy, Cyprus and Switzerland.

As a part of this project Institute of Low-Carbon Industrial Processes will define for Sanddorn GmbH (another partner from SINNOGENES), Herzberg, Germany, its decarbonisation concept to be as self-sufficient as possible with regard to its energy supply, convering the process demand with renewable energy sources. The task of our institute is the development of a suitable energy concept consisting of renewable energy sources and energy storage, which should also take into account the planned production expansion. Our institute will help optimizing the capacity of the renewable energy sources at Sanddorn GmbH production plant, such as photovoltaic, wind turbines and solar thermal, as well as the conversion components such as heat pump, boiler and electric heater selecting an optimal operation strategy to minimize the overall costs and CO2 emissions of the industrial site. Thermal and electric storage solutions will be considered to provide more flexibilty for the plant operation and integrated in the energy concept.

For the definition of the optimal decarbonisation concept and its operation, our Institute has developed the CoDeOpT tool:

Programming language: Python

Modules:

    • Coupled design and operation optimization for integrated energy systems with renewable sources
    • Optimal operation strategy for the decarbonization concept
