July 29 – 30, 2025

CFRP supplier workshop

Workshop for CFRP suppliers
On
29-30 July 2025
(Start: 29 July 2025 at 1 pm / registration from 12 noon; end: 30 July 2025 approx. 1 pm)
At the
TUM Start-Up Incubator
Lichtenbergstr. 6, 85748 Garching near Munich

The goal of making aviation largely climate-neutral by 2045 is an ambitious one.

In addition to new climate-friendly fuels (SAF, hydrogen), a significant reduction in the energy requirements of aircraft will contribute to this goal and the following measures in particular are the focus of research in the German government's aviation research programme (LuFo):

Weight reduction of all structures

New CFRP materials, construction methods and manufacturing processes

Using the A320NEO as an example, it can be shown that with a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of approx. 79,000 kg, an empty weight of approx. 43,000 kg and a structural weight of approx. 28,000 kg (approx. 65% of the empty weight), there is considerable potential for weight savings of up to 10%.

This potential, already demonstrated by the increased use of fibre composite structures in the A350, is to be exploited for the next generation of short and medium-haul aircraft. To achieve this, however, high-rate and cost-effective manufacturing processes must be developed which, in addition to the weight potential, also guarantee the economic potential of the technology.

Accordingly, we invite you as a supplier to discuss the following topics with us at the workshop:

  • What capabilities can German suppliers contribute to the next generation of short- and medium-haul aircraft in CFRP construction?
  • What framework conditions do suppliers need for this?
  • How can LuFo contribute to strengthening suppliers?

We look forward to working with you in Garching to develop the concept for future funding priorities in the Structures and Design department. The results will be incorporated into the design of the new LuFo Climate VII-2 with a potential start in 2026.
