Quantum metrology Department

DLR research in the field of quantum metrology
Quantum metrology enables time measurements of unprecedented accuracy - for much more precise navigation systems, among other things.

The Quantum Metrology department focuses on the development of quantum metrology instruments suitable for space travel, particularly with regard to the compactness, reliability and robustness required for this. In order to achieve high measurement accuracy, laser measurement technologies are used, for example to realise iodine and resonator-based frequency references, optical frequency combs and laser interferometers. The instruments are used, for example, in earth observation, navigation and scientific missions.
