DLR in Lampoldshausen centers its safety

The ground-breaking ceremony for the new safety building took place on August 28, 2023. The new building will bring safety and emergency management together with all safety-related institutions such as the Fire Brigade, the Safety Center and the medical service under one roof. "DLR Lampoldshausen is responsible for safety at the site. Not only the extensive engine tests but also the external companies based at the site rely on safe operations and rapid assistance in an emergency," says Janine Herdel, Head of Safety and Facility Management at the DLR Institute of Space Propulsion. The new safety building enables safety staff to coordinate between the individual institutions even more quickly and efficiently. Time and precise coordination play a major role here. "The more precisely we can coordinate with the Safety Center, the smoother the operation will run," says Achim Vogel, commander of the DLR Fire Brigade. "We are already looking forward to the completion of our new building with great joy and anticipation." The Lampoldshausen site is thus investing in a modern and future-proof safety and emergency management system.
In summer 2023, the vehicle fleet was modernized with the new firefighting vehicle – LF20/16 for short. The LF20/16, with a crew of 1/8, is equipped with a foam extinguishing system and a 3,000 liter extinguishing water tank. The equipment of the new vehicle is optimally tailored to the needs of the location.
