Visit to the acatech learning workshop
The topic of the "Technology Communication Learning Workshop" organised by acatech and Science in Dialogue was the clear communication of complex technical issues. On 28 September, the participants visited the research laboratories of the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics as part of an excursion.
The programme included technical demonstrations of the Institute's entire range of applications:
- the SMiLE care assistance robotics project
- the robotic hand CLASH
- the industrial robotics project Factory of the Future
- the humanoid robot Rollin Justin
- the robotic arm developed for medical applications MIRO Innovation Lab
- the humanoid walking robot TORO
- the LRU rovers from the planetaren Explorationsrobotik
- the on-orbit servicing simulator OOS-SIM
With the learning workshop, which takes place annually, acatech and Wissenschaft im Dialog want to focus on technology communication, the importance and position of which has hardly been considered separately within science communication to date. In particular, the focus will be on the tension between theory and practice. The aim is to carry out communication measures (e.g. in schools or museums, in mass media, public relations, marketing or political consulting) in a scientifically sound manner and, on the other hand, to bring current challenges in communication as impulses into research (e.g. communication science, sociology, didactics, pedagogy, linguistics).
Some of the questions that acatech and Wissenschaft im Dialog are exploring in their "Technology Communication Learning Workshop" with young science communicators, young journalists and young scientists interested in communication are as follows: "How should communication on new technologies, for example in the field of nanotechnology or biotechnology, take place?" "What are the overarching success factors of technology communication?"
Thematic impulses from communication scientists and practitioners, the participants' own contributions and excursions serve the intensive exchange of experiences. The visit to the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics took place for the first time in this context.
