Visit to the acatech Lernwerkstatt
The clear communication of complex technical issues is the topic of the "acatech Lernwerkstatt" organized by acatech and Wissenschaft im Dialog. On September 11, 2023, 35 young journalists and science communicators visited the Institute's research laboratories in Oberpfaffenhofen as part of an excursion. In addition to a presentation by the Institute Director, technology demonstrations by various research teams showed the Institute's wide range of applications. The focus was on the systems and domain.

In the workshop, which takes place annually, acatech and Wissenschaft im Dialog want to focus on technology communication, whose importance and position within science communication has hardly been considered separately to date. In particular, the focus will be on the tension between theory and practice. The aim is to carry out communication measures (e.g. in schools or museums, in mass media, public relations, marketing or political consulting) in a scientifically sound manner and, on the other hand, to bring current challenges in communication as impulses into research (e.g. communication science, sociology, didactics, pedagogy, linguistics).
The questions that acatech and Wissenschaft im Dialog are jointly exploring in their workshop with junior staff from science communication, young journalists and young scientists interested in communication include: "How do we deal with resistance to controversial or risky technologies?", "To what extent is participation by society necessary or desirable?", "And what opportunities does online communication via social media offer?".
Thematic impulses from communication scientists and practitioners, the participants' own contributions and excursions were used for an intensive exchange of experiences. The visit to the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics took place for the second time in this context.
