System description
MAYA is an assistive robot designed to support individuals with severe motor impairments. Its seven-axis robotic arm is optimized for wheelchair integration, enabling users to pick up objects from the floor, operate in standing mode, and stow the arm compactly at the side of the wheelchair when needed.
Built on safety-certified joint modules and enhanced by our Cartesian impedance control, MAYA ensures safe, intuitive interaction with the environment. The system maintains the precision and performance of its predecessor, EDAN, while serving as an advanced platform for our semi-autonomous control framework. Together, these capabilities empower users to carry out everyday activities more independently and efficiently.
The system MAYA consists of a wheelchair with an integrated robotic arm and an additional camera, whose image data is used to recognize the environment. This allows everyday tasks to be supported intuitively, easily, and efficiently.
