Our institute's review of the year
From the development of our simulation and optimisation methods to exciting experiments with hydrogen and new engine components, 2024 has been an eventful year and this is just a small glimpse of our work at the Institute of Propulsion Technology this year.

DLR, MTU Aero Engines and GKN Aerospace: joint research for climate-compatible aviation
Together, we are developing and testing the low-pressure turbine and high-pressure compressor engine components for a future geared turbofan engine.

Pre-design in the LuFo project EPIFAN completed
Together with the Technical University of Braunschweig and Oswald Elektromotoren GmbH, the DLR Institute of Propulsion Technology is investigating a hybrid-electric propulsion system consisting of an electric motor and a boundary-layer-intake turbojet.

Innovation Award 2024 Rolls-Royce Germany
The endoscopic probe system developed at the Institute of Propulsion Technology makes it possible for the first time to obtain optical data from the extremely demanding conditions of industrial high-pressure combustion chambers. And all without affecting the flow during the combustion process.
