InnoTrans is the world’s leading international trade fair for transport technology. InnoTrans 2026 - The future of mobility

DLR is presenting radio modules for the autonomous coupling of individual wagons and entire trains. They enable safe and fast communication and distance measurement between wagons and entire trains.

The DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation will be presenting its latest technological developments in an interactive exhibit at Innotrans 2026 in Hall 2.2 Stand 440.

Intelligent systems for rail safety

Next Generation Train

In order to enable innovative rail concepts (next generation train), scientists at the DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation are working on new communication methods for train traffic and are focusing on communication between trains (train-to-train).

IMPACT

In the "IMPACT" project (Intelligent Magnetic Positioning for Avoiding Collisions of Trains), a system is being developed that functions autonomously on board and enables precise track positioning even under difficult operating conditions. The local magnetic field is used to localize the train and artificial intelligence is applied.

NGT-TAXI

The Next Generation Train (NGT) TAXI is a small, lightweight, automated rail vehicle with an overhead wire-independent drive for the reactivation and revitalisation of previously unprofitable routes in rural areas.

Spin-off Intelligence on Wheels

The operational use of the key technology magnetic localization was successfully introduced as part of the Railway Collision Avoidance System (TrainCAS)) eingeführt.
