MaTiC-M

The MaTiC-M (Methods and Technologies for an intelligent Circularity of Materials) project develops a design-for-circularity methodology for sustainable product design using AI and digitization tools to reduce material losses during disposal through more resource-efficient product development, with pilot applications in the aerospace, energy, and transportation sectors.

Project Details

Focus on circular design: MaTiC-M develops a methodology for sustainable product development with AI support and highlights raw material traceability and recycling rates.

The goal of the MaTiC-M impulse project is to develop a holistic design-for-circularity methodology that enables the traceability of raw materials for the end-of-life/end-of-use of components through transparency, assessment and development of disassembly and recycling routes during product development. The project involves the development of AI and digitization methods and tools that provide key decision support for recyclable design. The goal is to enable circular design, higher recycling rates, and improved material utilization through the assessment of material flow paths and resulting recommended actions. Pilot applications from the fields of aviation, energy and transport will ensure transfer to broad application areas.

The project focuses on the development of a uniform methodology for sustainable product and technology design and the development of a software tool that enables efficient use of this methodology by product developers. A special feature is the holistic consideration of process chains, including all end-of-life steps such as collection, sorting, disassembly, landfilling, processing and recycling.

The project also provides an impetus for technology transfer, which should enable companies to use the developed methodology or software tool for their product development in the future. For this purpose, an advisory board of well-known industrial companies accompanies the development progress in the project.
