Scenario “Rural: Heavy Rain”

The demonstration in the Ahrtal serves as a realistic test of the technologies and methods developed in the RESITEK project for the disaster scenario “Rural: Heavy Rain.” The aim is to realistically map the challenges of identifying affected areas, supplying and evacuating people, and securing critical infrastructure. The findings gained feed directly into the further development of the systems.

At the demonstration on 19 and 20 June 2026, the technologies and methods developed in the RESITEK project are demonstrated in the field. In the assumed disaster scenario, a heavy rain event has caused widespread flooding in the Ahrtal with, in some cases, catastrophic consequences.

The technologies developed within RESITEK are intended to provide rescue personnel with the best possible support in meeting the challenges arising from this for rescue operations. Current information from the air is to be transmitted using various drones deployed on site, while the airspace is monitored from the ground. A dedicated, independent communication network is set up, and an autonomously driving amphibious rescue vehicle enables the rescue of people from the flooded area as well as the safe transport of relief supplies. All operational and situational information is brought together in the complex situational picture, thereby coordinating the deployment.

This demonstration showed how the developed system architecture and the various technologies interact in a rural environment and what added value they offered for emergency services and disaster response.
